Adana (тур. Adana) — one of the largest cities Turkey, the administrative center of the Adana region. It includes the provinces of Mersin, Osmaniye and Hatay. It is located on the Seyhan River, 50 km from the Mediterranean coast. A large industrial center, the textile, chemical and food industries are developed. Adana is famous throughout Turkey for its local cuisine. The most famous dishes of adana are kebab, sliced soup, spicy turnips, with alum, shyrdan, kadaif. Traditional carpet and copper products are made here.

Districts of the city of Adana (il)

Sarycham —  was established in 2008 by separating from the district of Yuregir. Translated, the name sounds like "Yellow pine", because there is a pine forest in the north. The number of inhabitants is 194,019 people.

Seyhan —  the business and cultural center of the city, where about half of the inhabitants of Adana live. Il includes the Tepebag historical district, where such important structures as the "Big Clock", the Ulu Mosque, the Ramazanoglu mansion and the central Sabanji Mosque are located. Located on the banks of the Seyhan River. The population of the district is 796,131 people.

Chukurova — in 2008, it was separated from the Seyhan district and received the status of a district. There are mainly new, modern high-rise buildings, many kebab shops, cafes, restaurants, entertainment venues, boutiques and shopping centers. Picnickers come to Adnan Menderes Boulevard from all over the city, as there is a picturesque lake and a forest area nearby. The population is 386,634 people.

Yuregir — a district located on one of the banks of the Seyhan River. There are many historical monuments in Yuregir and its surroundings: bridges, mounds, aqueducts, floor mosaics, baths and caravanserais. The population is 412,092 people.

Economy

Adana is a marketing and logistics center for farming and agricultural companies. The province produces 50% of corn and soybeans, 34% of peanuts, 29% of oranges from all grown in Turkey. Cotton, wheat, barley, and grapes are also grown here.

The industry is represented by textile and leather enterprises. There are companies producing vegetable oil and food products. In Adana there are:

  • Temsa is the largest automobile company manufacturing buses.
  • Marsa is the largest margarine and vegetable oil production plant in Turkey.
  • Advansa Sasa is the largest polyester manufacturer in Europe.

The city is one of the leading commercial centers of Southern Turkey, and it houses the regional headquarters of many companies and government agencies. The TÜYAP Exhibition and Congress Center holds fairs and business conferences, and is currently the main meeting place for entrepreneurs. The tourism sector has also been actively developing in the city in recent years.

The Adana Chamber of Commerce (ATO) was founded in 1894 to guide and regulate the cotton trade and is one of the first chambers of commerce in Turkey. Today, this chamber of commerce has more than 25,000 corporate members. The Adana Commodity Exchange was founded in 1913 and is responsible for regulating trade in agricultural products and livestock.

Adana Province is Turkey's fourth chromium mining region, thanks to the neighboring ports of Mersin and Hatay, the mining industry easily delivers products to almost any buyer. Iron, manganese, lead, zinc, coal, quartz, clay, limestone are also mined in the region.

Nature and climate

Adana has a Mediterranean climate. Winters are warm, with frequent rains, summers are hot and dry. The maximum temperature of +45.6 °C was recorded on August 24, 1958. The lowest temperature -8.1 °C — was recorded on January 20, 1964.
