Nature and climate
For a small country, Albania has a very diverse geography. Most of the territory is covered by mountains and hills. The largest mountain ranges are the Albanian Alps, Korab Mountains, Pind, Skanderbeg, Keraunian Mountains.
There are also many lakes here. The largest lake in Southern Europe, Shkoder, is located in northwestern Albania. Lake Ohrid, one of the oldest continuously existing lakes in the world, is located in the southeast. To the south, the Great and Small Prespa Lakes stretch, which are considered to be one of the highest mountain lakes in the Balkans. The longest river in the country is the Drin.
The climate in the country is extremely diverse due to differences in latitude, longitude and altitude. The Mediterranean and continental climate prevails with four distinct seasons. The warmest areas are located along the coast of the Adriatic and Ionian Seas. The coldest areas are within the northern and eastern highlands.
