Nature of Argentina
Argentina occupies the southeastern part of the mainland of South America and the eastern part of the Tierra del Fuego archipelago. Due to its great length from north to south, it has a diverse climate and landscapes. The Andes, the largest mountain range in the Western Hemisphere, runs along the entire western border of Argentina.
In the northwest, at an altitude of 3-4 thousand meters, there is an extensive closed volcanic plateau of Puna. The mountains framing it from the east rise to 6,500 m. They are crowned by the snowy peaks of Nevados.
Argentina has a rich mineral resource base for industrial development. But there are almost no deposits on a global scale, as in other Latin American countries. There are ore minerals in the western regions.
The country is distinguished by reserves of uranium, manganese, copper ores, beryllium; there are lead-zinc, tungsten and iron ores. In terms of uranium ore reserves, Argentina is one of the top ten countries in the world. There is natural gas and oil here. In Patagonia, the southern part of the country, there are small reserves of brown coal. There are quite a lot of deposits of building materials, including marble and granite.
Argentina is located in three climatic zones:
- Tropical - in summer, the air there warms up to +30...+40 °C, and in winter about +17...+20 °C.
- Subtropical - summers are very hot and humid with temperatures of +35 °C. Winters are mild, but with a few frosty days, the temperature rarely drops below 0 °C.
- Moderate - the temperature in January is +14...+22 °C, July temperature +5.9...-5 °C.
Summer in the south of the country is quite cold, the average temperature of the warmest month (January) is +15 °C. The annual precipitation decreases in the plains from east to west from 1400-1600 to 100-300 mm, in the mountains it increases again. The eastern slopes of the Southern Andes receive the most precipitation (up to 2000, and in some places even up to 5000 mm per year), and from the flatlands — Entre Rios in northeastern Argentina (up to 1600 mm per year)
The climate of Buenos Aires is subtropical and humid. Summer lasts from December to February, and winter lasts from June to August. The winter is mild, with prolonged rains, and there are occasional mild frosts. The summer is very stuffy and long, with characteristically hot weather and heavy rainfall. The vegetation of Argentina is very diverse: from tropical forests to semi-deserts in Patagonia and Pune.
